Boise Aquatic Sciences Lab
Project: Development of Database Systems

Period of Performance: 1994 – present

Summary
TelStar developed stand-alone database systems over the last 14 years for the U.S. Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station’s Boise Aquatic Sciences Lab. TelStar worked hand-in-hand with the Aquatic Sciences Lab to develop a database system (Fbase) to store, retrieve, and report out fish and fish habitat inventory data. Fbase has been extensively used across Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, and Colorado. TelStar readily and efficiently made modifications as new needs arose and to adapt to different operating systems. TelStar helped the Aquatic Sciences Lab to smoothly convert the Fbase database over to a Forest Service corporate database. TelStar also developed a database system, the PACFISH/INFISH Implementation Monitoring Module, to support the collection of compliance data across Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management field units within the Interior Columbia River Basin. This system went through several modifications to meet the needs of a diversity of users and regulators while new research information and tracking systems (e.g., Global Positioning Systems) became available. TelStar was responsive and efficient in making upgrades and helping the client maintain a user-friendly database system.
TelStar also recently developed a Research Tracking Database System for the Aquatic Sciences Lab to enter scientists’ project information, budget, and technology transfer products into a user-friendly system. The Lab is currently developing a project with TelStar to crosswalk information from one database system into another system.
